1973-75 - Peter Kelly s.j. ,while a priest on a sabbatical in France and Germany, lived in a very serious two year relationship with a German woman , during which they got engaged and discussed his leaving the order and marrying. He also became the father of a son, David Weber.

♦ Peter Kelly's son David Weber has provided his story here.

♦ David Weber's website about Children-of-Priests
Peter Kelly s.j. was a moral theologian who turned his students at Canisius College away from talk of sin to discourse about God, who saw morality as less a question of law and judgement than covenant and failed relationships, who saw the mystery of evil as much social as individual.
small mention here - North Sydney catholics

Peter Kelly ex-s.j. sexually assaulted a school girl when he was a priest and she was at school.
She subsequently put in a complaint (Mark Raper, Provincial) and was paid out.

The Marilyn Warren investigation into Victor Higgs s.j. being moved from St. Ignatius College, Athelstone,Adelaide to St. Ignatius College, Riverview, Sydney found that 3 sex abuse reports reports to the St. Ignatius College, Athelstone Rector, Fr Frank Wallace SJ and his reporting those to Provincial Peter Kelly were a "factor" in Higgs being moved.
Obviously to cover up Higgs' sex abuse and keep it all quiet but she doesn't say that.

Peter Kelly s.j. was Provincial (1968-72) when he moved 12 sex offenders:

- Victor Higgs s.j. went from Adelaide to Riverview (possibly placed him at Adelaide 1968)

- Peter Beer s.j. was sent away from Xavier College.

- Peter Quin s.j. moved from St. Ignatius, Adelaide to Xavier College.

- G. "Mac" Larkin s.j. moved from Norwood, SA to Kostka Hall, Vic.

- Paul Schulze s.j. moved from Burke Hall to St. Ignatius Primary, Richmond,Vic.

- Richard Galbraith s.j. sent from Xavier College to St. Beuno's College, North Wales, UK.

- John Byrne s.j. removed from Burke Hall.

- Leo Flynn s.j. removed Richmond parish to Attadale, WA..

- Henry Sneddon s.j. moved from Riverview from Burke Hall.

- Herbert Balding s.j. removed from Kostka Hall.

- Willi Kovac removed from Xavier College.

- Stan Hogan s.j. Placed into Riverview.

- David Rankin s.j. moved from Northbridge Primary School, Sydney

Rostrevor College, Adelaide.
Francis Peter Kelly ('32), known as Peter, attended Rostrevor College from 1925 to 1932.
During this period there were a number of Kelly families attending Rostrevor.
Peter Kelly was the eldest son of Francis and Sheila Kelly (Mann).
Francis had attended CBC Wakefield St in the 1890s.
He then worked on the family farm near Caltowie until about 1899, then returned to Adelaide to study law.
He was articled to Patrick McMahon Glynn, one of the South Australian delegates to the Convention
which was appointed to work towards Federation. Francis obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1906.

Francis, after several partnerships, went on to establish Kelly, Hague and Travers a longstanding Adelaide law firm now known as Kelly & Co.

Excerpt from 2000 Rostrevor Magazine
Peter Kelly had two brothers, John ('32) and Michael ('34) and they attended Rostrevor College
from their Augusta Street, Maylands home. Peter Kelly joined the State Tax Office in 1933 and
worked there for four months before being able to study law. In May of that year an opening
became available in the Crown Solicitor's Office and although he had to undergo a salary cut of 50%,
Peter accepted the position which allowed him to be released from the office for lectures and examinations.
In his first year he studied Latin, a compulsory law subject in those days.
His younger brother John, who was Dux of the College in 1931 and '32, also commenced a full-time law degree in 1933.
